I grew up believing in Santa and so did Damon. Our realist personalities, however, really aren't into this whole thing. Damon says he's never told Kyle there is one and I guess I haven't directly either but by going along with what he thinks about him I feel like we've told him there is one. Anyway, I'd decided the main reason I wanted to play along with the gig was that I didn't want the responsibility for my kid to blow the thing for others in the class. Well, at the party on Thurs, Santa's name was mentioned and Mayah pipes up "he's not real" I don't think many of the kids heard and another mom told her we weren't to say that to the others or something like that. So, it just cracked me up. I was kind of hoping Mayah would just blow it for Kyle but he was at the other table.
Damon and I will end up blowing it in some way, I'm sure. However, I think there is a part of kids that want to believe no matter what they think or are told. I have tried to explain the reason we give gifts to one another and to talk a lot about Jesus' birthday. I am thankful for our church and Kyle's school who have done a great job of helping reinforce this thought. Santa or no Santa, I think that the kids get the reason we are celebrating Christmas.
