We have had a couple of episodes that lead Damon to believe our computer was sick and needing to be replaced. So, he built a new one this weekend. It is amazing how automatic things are no longer automatic. For instance, the keyboard is curved a little on the typing part. I have always been a good typist with few errors and decent speed. My errors have increased dramatically. Who thought the curve thing was a good idea?
And, now I have to get used to the new look of Outlook 2007. I guess we'll see how long it takes for this old dog to learn the new system. Thankfully, the old mouse still works because the new one is about the size of a softball. (maybe a slight exaggeration) Our old one is a little one that Kyle can easily use so you can imagine the size difference. I'm sure Kyle will adapt much faster than Mom!! I'll have to post my next blog with typos included. That would be an interesting decipher!

Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Luncheon
Kyle's preschool started off our week with a Thanksgiving luncheon for parents, siblings and students. One thing I've really enjoyed about this school is the involvement of the whole family. They made the table decorations and their Indian costumes. Every class was a different Thanksgiving icon which was very cute. They sang a Thanksgiving song and sang their Johny Appleseed prayer. Despite the looks on the kids faces, they did have a good time.

Through the Eyes of a Child
Kyle is SO excited for Christmas this year. I keep trying to get him to understand that Thanksgiving is first AND our trip to Disney but he sees it everywhere so it's hard for him to understand that Christmas season isn't quite here yet.
With warm weather here this weekend, we put up some lights. We really haven't done that since we've had the kids. Last year he REALLY wanted lights but we didn't. This year we wanted to put some up for him to enjoy. As we were hanging the lights, he was so excited I thought he was going to break something or knock Damon off the ladder. After they were up he said "This is the best Christmas ever!" and then said he thought Santa would really like the lights and that our house looks like Santa's house now.
He helped me buy a present for Gpa Tom yesterday so we even wrapped a few gifts today. That was an adventure with a 4 year old. He wants to put up the tree but he'll have to wait until after Thanksgiving for that.
I'll have to say I've always loved Christmas season but it is taking on a whole new enjoyment watching it through his eyes. It's pretty obvious that Allison doesn't remember Christmas from last year. When he says he wants something for Christmas she'll find something and say she wants it for her birthday. So, she gets the concept of presents but doesn't remember getting any except for her birthday I think. She'll remember next year, I'm sure.

Strike 3- You're Out and To Your Room
OK. I KNOW 4 year old judgement is lacking but come on!!!!!
1. About 2 weeks ago, Damon said Kyle was being quiet and when he found him he had taken a permanent sharpie marker, gone into the laundry room and had painted all his fingers and toes and feet and belly and arms and face with it! (Alcohol removed most of it)
2. Last weekend, it was quiet again while I was talking on the phone and he was doing crafts at the table. I said "Kyle- where are you?" No answer so I got up and he was under the kitchen table with scissors in his hand and a pile of his hair beside him.
3. He went to the bathroom about 5 minutes ago which is nothing unusual. He does that all by himself with no help for anything. Thankfully, I went in for something shortly after and found the trash can (Longaberger basket one) in the middle of the floor. I quickly realized he had decided to urinate in it instead of the toilet. Thankfully, the Meijer trash can liner did it's duty and I had a liner for the basket. He is now in his room (time out for Mommy I think)
All I know is that I think the researchers better do some more research. (see previous post)

Smell of Fall
I was overwhelmed by the smell of fall yesterday afternoon. I have been to pumpkin patch, apple orchard and other outdoor things but it was so warm when we did those events this year that I think I missed the fall smell. Kyle played with his friend JD yesterday afternoon and when I picked him up the boys were playing in their amazing wooded back yard. We took a little stroll through the woods before we came home and it was SO grand to hear the leaves crunching underfoot, to feel the damp fall air and to just inhale the fresh fall air.
Tis the Season
We were surprised on Monday in the shopping mall when Santa was already at his post. Allison will have nothing to do with it and neither would Kyle until this year. We were walking by and he said "I want to tell Santa what I want for Christmas" so he told Santa he wants a clipboard (Santa thought he said skateboard but I was sure to pipe up- don't be putting crazy ideas in his head, Santa!!) Santa was a little surprised, asked what he wanted to do with it (draw pictures of course, Santa) and then proceeded to ask Kyle if he needed some paper and pens to go with it. I'll have to say, Santa is getting off pretty easy this year! I'm sure Kyle will make up for it in years to come.
I am in a frenzy trying to get all of my shopping done before we fly to Disney in 2 weeks. I am well on my way and feel it is a realistic goal at this point. I might have a thing or two to get in Dec but it will be easy stuff to grab. I have always tried to be done by Dec 1 so I can spend the month of December enjoying festivities, family and remembering the REAL reason for the season!! :)

Exciting 24 hours
Yesterday started out as a normal day-- Dropped Kyle at preschool, ran errands, picked up lunch and were on our way home to eat it. The police had the road blocked and so we couldn't get through and when I asked if we could get around the other route, the policeman advised that we should not be around the area right now (not going to tell me twice) so we headed back to McD's to eat in the restaurant part. After an hour or so, we headed home and were able to get through the other way and the police there were saying the "situation" was under control. The first policeman had said something about a person wtih a gun. Anyway, we were safe and home and never heard what the excitement really was about. I was thankful Allison and I had run around all morning versus going home. Not sure we couldn've gotten out to pick up Kyle!! That would have been crazy.
Then, on Damon's way home, he got a flat tire so had to change it, go to the tire store and get a new tire put on. I had been procrastinating dinner and had decided just to clear some leftovers out of the fridge which I was thankful I'd done.
Finally, to end our day, we heard Kyle coughing about 11 pm and he had vomited in bed. I don't need to go into detail here but it is not the way you really want to end your day. So, we are hanging low, getting his belly adjusted to food and doing LOTS of laundry. I knew the post earlier this week about avoiding the fall bugs would probably lead to this bout! What was I thinking?
I did read a whole book yesterday- "Jim & Casper Go To Church" Thanks for the loan, Lori. It was very thought provoking and I'm looking forward to processing it tonight at our church leadership meeting.

Museum with Cousins
I have wanted to show my nephews the Children's museum for a couple of years now. We finally got that accomplished last week. They LOVED it, of course. I think my favorite part was running into a former coworker and she assuming that my nephews were mine. She said "he looks just like you" I had to tell her the blonds were mine but that my oldest nephew does look just like my brother and therefore resembles me as well.

Status Quo
Things around here are status quo. We all got our flu shots, seemed to have avoided some of the bad bugs around this fall - both huge blessings. I am really enjoying a Bible study on the book of John this fall- mostly due to a great group of women that I get to spend time with on a weekly basis.
You may notice a couple new blogging friends on my blog sidebar. I encourage you to check them out if you need a boost of faith and some encouragement. Tyson and Leslie are certainly going through a rough spot that no one would ever choose. Lynn is embarking on a chosen path with challenges of it's own. I'm so encouraged by each of their stories and hope you will be too.
Trying to adjust to the time change. It's been a bit crabbier and whinier in our house since Sunday. Kyle is zonked on the couch and Allison in her room. I do LOVE afternoons when they both nap (a rarity)
